- "She gives me things, she gives me this wondrous resort to spend much of my time in."
- ―The Else[src]
Maryland is a state in the United States of America and home to cities such as Baltimore. It is located in the mid-Atlantic region. The capital city of Washington, D.C. in Maryland served as the location of the headquarters of the U.S. Government following the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.
History[]
Statehood[]
Maryland was admitted to the Union on April 28, 1788, as the seventh state of the United States of America.[1] Shortly after the White House was first constructed in its original form, the government put bounties on the heads of members of the Legions of Metta, provoking their leader, Lord Yarem, to attack the White House outright only to perish in the ensuing skirmish in the mid-1790s.[2] Hence, the capital city of Washington, D.C. in Maryland served as the location of the headquarters of the U.S. Government following the outbreak of the Revolutionary War.[3]
20th century developments[]
Sirius Xameres was born in Washington, D.C. in 1991.[4] Around this time, the iconic city quarter was constructed shortly after Zira Miranda Grover, head of the International Alliance, became Empress. She left her Palace and isolated herself in the quarter on special occasions. The Else also resided in the resort and was provided with various luxuries in exchange for her intricate services, such as decadent food, men, and books.[5]
End of an empire[]
In 2005, the NoHeads were managing to infiltrate the White House by supernaturally controlling some of the its higher-ranking officials. As a consequence, later in the summer, on the evening of July 2, the White House was the stage of a silent coup during which Bill Clinton was killed while refusing to give the NoHeads any information on Sheriff Bladepoint. After the NoHead coup, the government became headed by Aurora Black, who was under NoHead control by means of mind control.[6]
When her son, Eegan, was abducted by an unknown assailant in 2021, Zira went to her mansion, although one of her agents let slip that she was in her city quarter as a false trail. Hoping that the Boy-Team could win over Zira's support and her invaluable knowledge of secret interlinking routes, Supreme Commander Steven Thompson dispatched Vincent Organa to the city quarter to negotiate with the Empress, while Thompson and his friend Summer Petersen sought out the missing infant. As the Armies of Organa investigated, the leader of the Girl-Team, Emily Watson, made the Magistrate suspect that the Armies of Organa were using the baby as leverage to topple her regime, when in fact Watson was responsible for arranging the kidnapping in the first place. Thompson and Petersen arrived back in Maryland to return the infant to his parent, but Watson and her forces engaged the duo; however they were driven off. Having trapped Watson in a bunker, Thompson turned over the baby to The Else, who spoke for her mistress and graciously granted the Boy-Team forces safe passage.[5]
Five years later, Jettster arrived at the White House itself with a message of retribution, having been forced into it by Sebiscuits Cardarphen.[4] Months later, Cardarphen teamed up with Annabeth Black and they broke into the White House to kidnap Aaron Clinton.[7]
Erno Silva Multiversal Crisis[]
Xitol arrived here with evil intentions.[8] During the climax of the ensuing Cosmic War, the Black Queen destroyed the Earthly Plane, destroying Maryland along with the rest of the universe.[9]
Alternate Universes[]
The New Earthly Plane[]
Despite its destruction in the mainstream timeline for which it originated, California endured in an alternate reality that several important people passed on to, hence merging with their alternate selves.[9] On Independence Day of 2079, the elderly Rocken Role performed for the very last time during the Enemy Fighters 20th Anniversary show at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C.[2]
An incursion-destroyed universe[]
A crime lord provoked an Incursion-like event that destroyed his native reality, including Maryland, inspiring Vertigo in the process.[10]
